Career:  former psychologist and educator; now retired

Although I was raised in Newport News, Virginia, I was born in Radford on a cold blizzardy morning.  I spent the next six months of my life in

"student housing" set up for veterans of World War II on the Virginia Tech Campus.  The units were "mini" trailers placed in a field where the football stadium is currently located.  After Dad's graduation, we moved to Tidewater.  I returned to attend Radford College and later Radford University then off to Texas.  My return to Radford in 1986 was by choice so my husband could attend graduate school, and so we could raise our son in the beautiful New River Valley.  After my retirement, I decided to be totally committed to my art.

I love painting landscapes and the macro world that surrounds us.  I am intrigued by the fractals and abstract designs only nature can provide.  Although I am a representational painter, these abstract designs are the true "bones" of a good painting.  Yet, I want more. I want to express a feeling or an emotional response to a time and place.  In addition, I am especially attracted to visual images that include any element of water, whether it be a raindrop, snow, or the ocean waves breaking on the shore.  Perhaps it is because my astrological sign is Aquarius (water bearer) or because of being born on that cold wintery day in Radford.

I use various media but my favorites are oils and watercolors.  I hope you enjoy and can feel the emotions I felt and try to convey with my art.
